Vette rally wheels came in different widths. 1969-82 are 8", 1968 are 7", 1967 are 6".
Just as well the truck wheels didn't fit. Although they may have looked ok, they may not have looked quite right on your car.

Ha on it being a sin to put truck tires on a Camaro LOL! Maybe that's what GM was thinking when they changed up the bolt patter lol! Man, I must be desperate to drive this car after 10 years lol!

Anyway, I'm not sure how wide the Rally rims are that I found on another forum, but I did find a worn torn set at the junk yard yesterday for $150 with center caps and no rings. Believe it or not they were on an old 80's Regal LOL! I'm pretty sure by looking at the 235 60's on the rear that they are 7 inch rims while the fronts were probably 6's since they had 205 65's and you could tell they were more shallow.

I did find a guy on the west side of detroit who specializes in used tires and rims and he is very familiar with what can fit under a 1st gen and he thinks he can help me get into a set of 16's or 17's within my budget, although the rubber is probably going to be a bit skinnny on the tread... Hey, as long as I can drive it this summer I can get new rubber next year right?

I'll keep ya posted :-)

Ok, I've got a guy at a used tire store looking. He's found a couple pair and was able to give me this picture of a set of 15's. He's got some 17's too that he's going to be sending me pictures of and I'll post as I get them.

I kinda think these look cool, but wouldn't mind seeing the 17's :-)

Well, I went with the aluminum 15's. The guy is going to mount a used 255 60 15 on an old 8" rim and let me take it home and check for clearance. Talk about customer service!

Those would look cool :-)

Have fun cleaning them up. I spent between 2.5 - 3 hrs per rim cleaning and polishing the rim's you see on the car now. I started with 600, 1000, then 1400. From there I went with a polishing ball. BTW, Mothers didn't work that well. Found some other stuff in a blue tube that worked great (Blue Magic). Got a nice, deep mirror finish with it. I'll never go back to Mothers.

Yup, nice and shiny just to take them off... Gotta love it ;-)

I don't think those would look very good on your car. Wanna sell em?

My Mom had a 63 Fairlane with those rims with an early funky 60's paint job. Psychodelic for sure!

I always liked those wheels!

Ahhh, and such is my life....

The tire shop can only get one 8" rim and it may be a month before he can get the second one from his supplier. Also, we decided on 255/60/15 (8" rim) on the rear and 215/60/15 (7" rim) on the front (Firestone). The front tires have been on back order with Firestone for over a month.

That being said, I cannot believe the fantastic customer service I'm getting. I mean, you just don't see this anymore, especially in a large city like Detroit.

I've never met the owner of this shop and honestly, I can't even remember the name of his shop, but since we're a ways apart, we've gotten to the point of texting pictures etc. When we wanted to see if a 255 would fit, and he found out I can't get my car to him (too far), he actually mounted a used 255 on an 8" rim and had his son bring it to me yesterday at my lunch!

When I put the tire on last night, I took pictures with my phone and sent them to him via text messaging and he liked the clearance.

So, when he found out today that he couldn't get the one rim, he offered to mount some used tires on some used (nice) 16's he's got for me to borrow till mine comes in. Unbelievable! And in case anyone is wondering, no, not a dime has been transfered or paid and no, I'm not going to take him up on his offer.

He's now trying to bypass his source for the rims and find a national supplier.

This is what I call customer service!

Found the missing rim!
Should have new shoes mid next week :-)

Oh, found out the name of the store I'm buying them from lol! I still can't believe the excellent customer service I recieved. I felt like I was back in the 40's where everyone knew everyone and was willing to lend an extra hand. Simply amazing!
