help me pick 68 drivetrain
I have owned a 68 rs since we bought it new. Taken off the road in 1974 but northern rust in just those six years. So i will do complete restoration. Very nice Interior original, many options. Butternut yellow, a/c, console ,327 2bbl factory dual exhaust, powerglide, 308 rear.. I am finally getting to the car after 43 years. Will store the original drivetrain and want to upgrade to much faster more interesting drivetrain. Seems like there are three popular choices. Go old school big block, maybe a 1968 427 with either tripower or 4bbl, turbo hydramatic. Or spend the bucks and convert to modern ls7 with newer trans. Or go with the best bang for the buck, but not my favorite choice, a stroker or crate engine and ? trans and posi 355 rear. Three very different choices , i have seen all three done beautifully. Any comments, suggestions, warnings from any of you? I really was bored back in the day with the stock drivetrain so i hope no one tries to talk me into keeping it for driving. I am leaning heavily to an automatic since i have a newer corvette and i have driven too many big block old corvettes and even with tremec, they are painful in traffic. thanks, Brad
