Help me build my ZL1 RAMJET 69' vert.
I have a 1969 convertable roller. (was a garnet red, auto, 350 with A/C.)
Bought as a roller project and finally have the body rust free.
All the metal work is now complete. (previous owner metal work was horrible)
I have a bunch of new parts that came with the car.
SSBC four wheel discs
Moser rear
Global west suspension
Flaming river steering rack (for sale)
fiberglass ram air hood (for sale)
colorado custom 18" wheels (for sale)
I have since bought a ZL1 Ramjet for this project.
Car will be a black RS clone with stripes and stock houndstooth interior.
Cloth top and rally wheels. Car will look stock inside and out except for engine.
I need to spec a transmission. Any suggestions? 5 speed? 6 speed?
Need shifter to locate in original console location for stock appearance.
What cross member should i buy? I recall seeing a fully adjustable crossmember on tv that fits all types of transmissions. Gearz? Hotrod tv?
Anybody know what i am talking about?
Will also have more questions on parts wish list throughout the build if you guys can help me spend my money

If you want to go stick I would go with a 6 speed. Try tremec I think they have complete conversion kits to swap a 4 speed to a 6 in the same location and get the handle through the console.
Don't even consider using the Tremec T56 unless you go with the "Magnum" (700 ft lb torque rating). Yes, they sell a perfect fit kit for the T56 for our cars. "Perfect fit", but still requires minor trimming of the stock 4-speed tunnel opening. A Tremec 5 speed TKO 500 or 600 (#'s refer to their torque ratings) is another option, and is available as a direct swap like the Magnum is. You'd have to do some price comparisons, and determine what torque rating you're going to need based on the engine's output, and also decide if you want or need a double overdrive with the T56. Both kits offer their own crossmember, which is made to fit, as opposed to having to cut, weld, and re-drill to make the original work.
