Default Help! Lost vin tag....

I guess I need to start out asking where else I can find the vin# on the car and what hoops im going to have jump through in Virginia to have a new tag made. We're dealing with a 68 Camaro here. The car was pretty rusty when we got it and alot of metal was replaced (including the dash) about a year ago when business was slow and then pushed aside for a while. Now we have the car back in the shop and realized the vin tag not on the dash.Aparently the old dash made it out on a scrap yard run. What to do? I have a clean title for it and asume I can have State Police come inspect the car vs. the vin# on the title and re-asign a new #....

Your screwed, You figure out how to legally get a new Vin please let us know. Whenever the body shop had to remove a vin they documented and photographed the whole process just in case.

There are many people that love to find a way to marry a clean title to a new Dynacorn body. I realize your not doing that but how can you prove it? If I had a clean title and I stole a different car then removed the Vin what would stop me from saying I lost the vin plate? You figure this out your going to make a lot of friends.

Well call the DMV and see if they have a specialist. My grandfathers 61 impala lost its vin tag in the door an the state reissued a new title and Vin after having the car inspected by a specialist that was also a sherrif from the DMV had to drive the car to the headquarters

If the car still has the original cowl panel, look for the hidden partial VIN. No other place on the car has the full VIN like the tag did, but a partial will show that the serial numbers match the title (assuming they do). You can't "legally" get a duplicate matching VIN tag. If the state gets involved, they'll issue you a new number, which won't be associated with the original run. Partial VIN Locations
