HELP. Car shorted all power during start
I was rushing to move my car back into the garage earlier and while I was cranking the ignition I pulled to turn on the headlights and everything cut out.
After that there was no power in the car at all. I put it in neutral and pushed it forward then the interior lights came on. I jumped in to try to start it and they cut off before I could try cranking it again.

Well I started wiggling the ignition switch wires and the harness inside and then everything started working. Fired it up and it’s been working fine now.
but before that I got power back randomly then I turned the headlights on and everything cut out again.

You are still describing a bad connection. The more power that flows through the bad connection the hotter it gets, the more the resistance builds up in the bad connection the worse it gets. It cools down and you start all over again. Eventually it will not start even when you shake the connection, This is Very common on cars that sit more then they are driven. One thing I can not do is tell you where the connection is failing.. I have heard so many "if I do this then it does this" lines in my life but the info almost never pin points the option. The more odd ball the if then's are the more likely it is a ground issue. You can clean all the connections involved in starting your car or learn more about electrical diagnosis. A voltage meter and a simple voltage drop test is across each connection will most likely show you the issue.
Note:
Many time this is a ground issue. Either from the negative battery cable to the block or the ground strap from the block to to the chassis. I would just clean those first. I consider that normal maintenance on a car that get stored a lot.
Bad battery cables can cause the same issue as a bad connection. A battery cable should be good for 15-20 years.
It is very rare but a battery itself can have the same symptoms as the above but it should fail any kind of battery load test that is done at the store.
