Default gas lines on my 68

so a lot of people seem to view and read these posts, but not a lot of responses. not sure if that is common here. but I have tot try again to get some info.

I have a 68 I am switching from 6cyl to 8 cyl. I found that the gas lines were 1/16th of an inch larger in the v8 models than the 6. should I replace the gas lines (they are in great shape by the way) if I am going to run a 350 in my camaro or is it not that big of deal?

Well the answer is the factory spent a lot of money to determine the flow of fuel and the 1/16th smaller fuel line was cheaper. If it were mine I would replace it, since it is not expensive, not correct, and I am unsure of the effect if any the fuel line might represent. Might want to think all the way down the road if smaller might impact anything else that it may or may not be able to hook too.. If it were 1/16th to big no worries, but smaller might as well spend the cash now as later...

so upfront, i'm far from an expert. but I have a 67 camaro, that was originally a 6 cylinder that the previous owner installed a 350 from a 69 ss. I can't honestly say what the fuel size is from the tank to the pump, but mine has a metal prebent line from the pump about halfway to the carb then rubber line to the carb with a plastic clear fuel filter in the middle. It had a couple small cracks and wanted to replace the fuel filter (couldn't find a match locally). So i ordered a 06AN stainless braided fuel line from jegs. hooked it all up... Cranked the car, cranked fine was idleing fine then it started to struggle and wouldn't stay idling. Not sure if it was the new line but after comparing, the 06AN line was smaller. I put the 3/8" rubber line back on the car and it cranked and idled fine and ran fine. Just my experience, i'm no expert so take this with a grain of salt.

Default ordered a new one

I went ahead and ordered new ones anyways, for $80 to my door, I will just save the headaches, I imagined it would reduce fuel a little bit and I might as well do it while gas tank, motor, tranny etc are out of the car.
thanks

In a '67 I owned earlier years, OE design of 5/16" OD fuel line supported a transplanted 350 CID and propelled the Camaro through qtr mile passes of 12.20's all day long.

Upgrading doesn't hurt.

Never had an issue with 5/16" fuel line and even a fairly well built SBC. I'd guess if your engine was very stout, and you're drag racing, you might not keep up. But otherwise I doubt it would be an issue.
I ran a D/Gas '55 Chevy that started life as a 6 cyl. and never changed the fuel line when I dropped the V8 in it. It had twin Carter AFB's on a dual carb intake, and never starved for gas.

I would say why not change it out? Its fairly cheap and is good insurance for future upgrades.
