The gas gauge in the console of my 68 shows only 1/3 deflection even though the tank is full. It slowly goes to E as I use up gas.

I opened the connection to the sending unit in the trunk and it goes to FULL. I short the connection to the meter (at the trunk connector) to ground and I get E....which tells me that the gauge is working as it should.

The car appears to have a brand new sending unit (from what I can see). Is it possible they used the wrong sending unit? Are there different types of sending units for console -based gauges and regular gauges?

Also, my low fuel warning does not work. I tested the light in my dash..and it works fine. Is it possible that there is a faulty low fuel unit that is throwing the fuel gage out as well?

Is it grounded well? Mine acts screwy from time to time when the ground gets loose/dirty.
