Default fuel gauge issue

I have a 69 Camaro Z28. I installed a center console with gauges. I converted the cluster fuel gauge to a Tach and hooked up the center console gas gauge. My question is when you shut off the engine is the gauge supposed to return to zero or is it supposed to stay at the registered fuel gauge amount. Mine stays at the registered amount and does not drop back to zero when the engine is shut off. If it is supposed to any suggestions why it isn't. The gauges are new along with the wiring. thanks for any help.

Depends on the gauge, and how you wired it. Is the power to the sending unit going off whenyou turn off the ignition key?

Even though this site does seem to run out of fuel and poop out regularly, I don't think this one is a Camaro Forum issue. Maybe someone can move this post to the 1st gen section?
