Default front air dam question

I have a 1969 Camaro with the plastic air dam under the front end. I am on my third one because of hitting animals and getting too close to parking curbs. If I remove it will anything suffer like handling or cooling?

I'd actually like to put one on my 69. It currently does not have one. I like the looks of it but never thought about the possibility of animals damaging it. I've only had my car for a month so I can't say anything will suffer due to removal but since mine has never had one as far as I know, I wouldn't think so?

On a street driven car, the front spoiler does two things:
1) Makes the front end look more like a (ooh) race car, and
2) Causes more front end drag on the highway, since the design is for it to create downward force to the front end.
It has no benefit to engine cooling, nor does removing it have a negative effect, if that's your concern, because it's mounted directly to the bottom of the valance panel.
You can remove the thing without worry if it's a burden to you.

Extra weight.
But, OE designed spoilers have three reinforcement rods from the bottom to each hole on the front fender extension and onto the radiator support to the bottom of the spoiler.

Only problem is if spoiler-to-curb ratio is high, fender extensions need replacing also.
