Default Flowmaster Tailpipes? 2.5" or 3"?

Hey guys, I've got a 68 big block, that currently has sidepipes, because that's all my muffler guy could do at the time to get a bigger exhaust system under there, so it's 2.5" from the headers to the mufflers, then out right before the rear wheels. Now that I found out about Flowmaster making tailpipes for these, I really want to go that route, to quiet the car down a bit, from my current setup back.

Does anyone here run these tailpipes? Are there any fitment issues? Will the 3" clear everything alright? Thats kind of the way I'm leaning twords, just to have the larger diameter, but if that won't quite fit, the 2.5" will have to suffice. I'm looking to order something soon, and would appreciate some replies. Thanks.

A few years ago, I bought a complete 3" system made by Heartthrob from JC Whitney. Pipes and mufflers were only a couple hundred bucks. They exit out the back, pointing down at an angle, just fitting between the leaf springs and fenders. I got the welded chambered mufflers, which (inside) look and sound just like the old Flowmasters that I took off (damn loud). They also offered turbo mufflers, or you could buy the pipes without mufflers. You interested in 3" pipes and mufflers that dump before the rearend, I still have the take-offs.

How does that setup fit? Any clearance issues? Sorry, not interested in another setup that dumps before the rear axle.

It fit very well, other than I had to do a little flattening of the drivers side pipe right after the header collector. I'm sure that was more due to the way my engine is mounted in there. Everything from there back fit perfectly.

Ok, it's a couple hundred bucks without the mufflers, it was a few years ago.
You need to select your vehicle, then click on the item details tab http://www.jcwhitney.com/header-back.../p2010448.jcwx

I got this from Summit, it was only a couple hundred bucks, went on easy and isnt too loud. 1971BB427 got the same kit and was happy with it as well. I have a sound clip below and https://camaroforums.com/forum/members/edog2-20209/ he put one up here.

I just ordered the $200 kit from summit with mufflers, so I'll see how that goes.
