What's up everyone..new to the boards here. I've recently acquired a 67 camaro convertible. Everything seems to be okay with the car except when I attempt to turn the steering wheel fully in either direction; the engine dies out. Has anyone had experience with this in the past, and what might need to be corrected?? Thanks!

Welcome. Post pics when you get a chance.
Does it only happen at idle or when you are driving it? Auto or stick? When was the last tune up? I am thinking it might be (now I am no expert by any sence of the word) timing. Perhaps the car is out of tune and when you turn the wheel the automatic steering is kicking in and drawing too much power from the engine. And it is so out of tune it can not handle it and dies out. You said you recently acquired it, I would staet with a basic tune up and see how it responds then.

Hi, and thanks for the response.
https://camaroforums.com/photo.asp?p...=6&apage=1I think this is the link to the pic I put up..
It only happens when I turn the steering wheel all the way..such as making a u-turn. It runs just fine otherwise, no problems with stalling out or rough idle. I went to swing into a parking spot yesterday and the enigine died and I just coasted to a stop.

Going to full lock on a power steering system puts a heavy load on the pump and engine, at least till the relief valves are forced open. You may want to bring up the idle speed slightly to keep the engine from stalling.

It really sucks when that happens. I had the same thing happen on my 87 Iroc, I know far from what you own (you have a beautiful car by the way, wanna trade...lol), I took mine to every shop in town and everyone was completly boggled, my dad and I figured out that it was a loose steering colum after scratching our heads and a@@ many times. I highly doubt that that is what is wrong with your beauty but I'de figure I would share my issue for a laugh.
