Default electrical: ignition problem

Ok Gear heads here i go

Trying to start the car i turn ignition and nothing not even clicking.

In the past when the car was very hot around 200 degs. Starter wouldn't start
i could hear clicking only, but when it cools down it starts right up.
I do have headers and yes they are very close to the starter and i have a starter blancket wrapped around the whole thing even the soldniod
So heat is not in the question now. where do i check first ?????

ps. lights work and radio.. Can someone tell me where the neutral safety switch is located on the 68 ? this car was an automatic with a colume shift before it was a 4 speed.....
Thanks

Ted

Check for power at the small wire to the solenoid when trying to start.

You should get an alum heat shield for starter as blanket is absorbing heat and soaking starter.
Air is the best insulator. Shield about the starter deflects heat.
Air between shield and starter will insulate against heat.
Next, use a remote starter to see if hot starter cranks.
If it cranks, then you might consider a marine grade starter button inside.
Hook one lead to battery cable terminal on solenoid, other lead to S terminal on solenoid.
Turn key to IGN, then press button when no crank from ign switch.
