dome light power?
It's me again looking to you smart guys who have already been where I'm going. I'm not getting any power to my dome light and I can't find where it should come from. By my reasoning it should come from the the same fuse as the dash lights. Am I right or am I way off my rocker. My dash lights work and yes the door switches are new and have a good ground. I feel so stupit but I cant find it and I will not jerry rig it! That will only lead to more problems. Thanks in advance for your help!!
I'm not that smart....yeah, that's it! I don't make excuses, I don't have to. I remember reading the post originally. Didn't have time to jump on it right away, then forgot. And, we're not here as your "personal troubleshooter" either. When you get help right away, be thankful for it, and don't ***** if you don't.
Now, if you want to play nice, let me know. You just might get what you're looking for.

OK, I assume you have a test light or meter?
There are two wires at the dome light, a white one (ground) and an orange one (power). Did you check the orange wire at the light while using a good ground to body (not the other side of the bulb socket)?
To answer one of your questions, there should be power at the light, and the door switches (white wires) are what completes ground and makes the lights go on.
So you have to be certain that you know it's either a power or ground issue. You may already have, I don't know.
The dome and courtesy lights get power from the fuse block. Look at the upper left location (below the flasher relay) at the fuse marked CLK LTR - CTSY (clock, lighter, and courtesy/dome lights are on the same circuit since they are "live" all the time). Make sure the fuse is good, and that it has a good connection by checking power at the fuse tabs on both sides of the fuse.
If everything checks out so far, you'll need to start hunting down the orange wire from the fuse block. If you don't have a test light with a sharp point, find a small nail and poke it through the casing of the orange wire and test there for power. That will at least tell you that the fuse block doesn't have a break in it.
If you do have power at the orange wire after the fuse block, but not at the dome light, you'll need to start tracing it up. It's quite possible that someone may have done a hack job on your under-dash wiring, or tapped off the cigarette lighter wiring to power something and cut an extra wire they shouldn't have.
That's all my feeble mind can come up with at the moment, until you do some diagnostics.
