I just bought a 69 camaro yesterday and took it out for the first time today. I locked the door and went into a store and when I came out and used the key to unlock it, the lock pull popped up but the door wouldn’t open. i went to the passenger side and had the same issue. I called a tow truck and the guy struggled for about 45 minutes and finally was able to roll down the back window first then was able to get the front window down and we were in. Has anyone experienced this and what was the solution? Thanks in advance, Night Moves.
Sounds like something isn't hooked up in the lock linkage inside the door panel.
Thinking the prior owner had things apart in there and didn't get it put back together properly.
Must have replaced some parts on both sides.
I took the door panel off and it all seems to be hooked up properly.
Any rust in there? Maybe try lubing things up with some WD40 then see if it works by rolling down the window then closing/locking the door and trying to unlock it again.
There is no rust in the doors and I did lubricate the mechanism. I ordered two new OER door latch mechanisms from Classic Industries and hopefully when I install them the problem will be solved.
I bet the new OER door latch mechanisms, some carefull reassembly, and a several tests with the door OPEN will 1) either fix it or 2) reveal something in actual door latch (end panel of the door) or alignment with to body-side latch/lock shaft.
You can take a 3/8 drive extension and "latch" the open door on the end panel to test it "closing, locked, and opening"
