Cowl Tag Help
Forum,
A few months ago I bought a 1969 SS396. Well, I've been looking into the cowl tag and its body is coded X11 and I'm starting to think that I may have a "tribute", if you will, SS396, as opposed to a true SS396. So, am I right to be freaking out, or is there still hope for it to be a true SS396?

What is the engine number? you can find it on the block, rhs in front and just below the rocker cover. Check it on mortec.com and you should find the details to tell you what theat engine was in, and what year.
My 1968 has a 396, ifound it was a 66 Impala motor, which was not great. But, I pulled it and rebuilt it, and I am quite happy now. If it was not guaranteed to be numbers matching, there is not much you can do, however, if it was discussed in the sale, and stated to be the original engine for your car, you have a case. Big big difference in value as a complete package and car, but not necessarily enjoyment, or performance.
Post your results, I would be interested to see what you decide.
good luck
