Cowl induction air cleaner

Cowl induction air cleaner
I have a 1969 Camaro with a 350, I bought a cowl induction air cleaner from Classic and the back of it hits the larger electronic distributor.
I needed about a 1/2" more, I thought about taking a hammer to the back of the air cleaner cover, but I have no metal work knowledge.
I sent the cowl induction unit back, I still want a cowl induction.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Too bad you sent the air cleaner back already, you lost your opportunity to check measurements, unless you already took some. The one you had is made to clear the stock distributor, not an HEI. If you don't have a hi-rise intake manifold, you should be able to use a 1" air cleaner spacer to raise the base above the distributor cap, one like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/aa...6086/overview/

Don't they make a small cap hei--there is a Guy that does or used to --Bing Daves small body hei's --then it would work--i have the hood but the cowl set up is to spendy for me i just use the K&N lid!!

Guys have made the conventional HEI distributor work, either with an air cleaner spacer, or with a hammer to the back edge of the air cleaner base. The distributor you're talking about (Daves) isn't an "HEI" like we know them, not a coil in cap style but a separate coil type. For the $200 he wants to convert a points style distributor over to electronic, I think I'd buy an MSD unit instead. But, that shouldn't be necessary, he just needs to create a little more clearance.
