Correct Spring Perches
It is unlikely that my car left the factory with multi-leaf springs. It was originally a 6 cylc and was at one point coverted to a 327.
The conversion was done with q good amount of accuracy ....but not 100%.
So I am guessing that it was probbaly a mono-leaf spring in it's infancy.
The question is how do I know if they have used the correct, multi-leaf spring perches on the rear axle?
Is it even possible to install mult-leaf springs without changing the perches?
One of the things that was not done well on my car is the spring U bolts..they basically avoided using the correct U-bolts etc....they just used plain old bolts....I will be correcting that ...but first want to identify if the perches are correct.
Can someone please help me identify if I have thw right perches.
Thanks!!
Vic

Mono leaf spring perches are shallower than multi leaf and allows the multi leaf spring to stick out past the perches. This will bend the shock mount plates as you tighten the bolts because they will not be flush with the perches. Mono leaf did not use u-bolts and multi did. Your car being orig 6 probably did have mono, all cars with 350 and above usually had multi leaf. Hope this helps.
I have attached a picture of the rear spring perches that are in my car.
Based on your description, I think these are mono-leaf perches. As the spring sticks out past the perches.
Couple of thoughts...
If these are in fact mono-leaf, this will be a big job to change them over to the multi-leaf perches.
I can weld correct new ones on without any problem, but getting the old ones off may be somewhat of a chore. And getting the new ones in teh right position may be tricky.
I am replacing these springs with 4-leaf springs and the correct U-bolts etc. but would realy like to avoid the headache of changing the perches. Is this safe to do this?
Has anyone else done the leaf conversion without changing the perches??

Many years ago I had a different 69 and changed from mono to multi leafs. I used the same perches, but If I recall I had to alter the center pin/bolt on the multi leaf springs. The springs stayed put just fine like that, plus I also installed the beefy combo traction bars/lower spring plate. But, to adapt it the absolute right way, get this: http://www.detroitspeed.com/productp...multi_prod.htm
