Bubbling Fuel Filter
I got my '69 on the road today finally. While driving it around it died like it was starving for fuel. I noticed the clear fuel filter was perculating like a coffee pot. When I opened the gas tank filler cap there was a whoose of air and the filter quit bubbling. The car then started and ran on home. The gas cap is vented and seems to work OK. Any ideas on what the deal is???
Our vented caps vent in, not out. The "whoosh" was the pressure inside the tank releasing, and is normal. You said the gas is bubbling in the filter, not running low, so it should be safe to assume you don't have an insufficient supply issue. Where is your filter located, and how are the gas lines run? Perhaps the filter and/or fuel lines are getting too hot.
Last night I decied to pull the carburator off and check it out. (It is a Demon carb) After some serious reserch I determained it to be a "Speed Demon" for a "396 and higher cubic inch engine". I decieded to pull the intake manifold and change to a smaller carb. (the maniflod was to big for the smaller carb. Hopefully get it back togather today. It has the stock fuel pump and fuel filter is is front of the block. [not getting hot] I think the carb was to big for the small block. But, I could be wrong.
