68 Camaro Rear end
I'm looking to replace the rear end on my 68 to something newer but not completely outrageous in price. I was told a 4th gen rear end would fit with little modification does anyone know if this is true?

What's the plan, to get rear disc brakes and a posi in one shot?
If by little modification you mean cutting and grinding off the 4th gen suspension and coil spring mounts, welding on leaf spring perches to mount it to the 68's leafs, narrow the axle tubes, and get the axles shortened and re-splined, so that you can use the same style/backspace wheels as you have now, then yes it's true. If you wanted to try using the rearend without narrowing it, then you would need to use wheels with the backspacing to fit the 4th gen (which is gonna look dumb on a 1st gen), but even then it's still going to be too wide. 1st gen rearend: 60" wide. 4th Gen: 64.72" wide. I guess I coulda given a simple no, but this was more fun!!

Yeah the whole point was to get it all in one shot posi , disc. And maybe even gears. swapping from coils to springs is not a big deal, but I was worried about having to narrow it. I'm thinking it might still b a better alternative, unless you can suggest something else? Thanks for the info

The narrowing is the part that sucks. A Ford 9" out of a Mustang or Cougar would fit, that's what I run in my 69. If you can't find one in the junkyard, call Currie Enterprises. They don't just have the high dollar stuff, they also have less expensive options. From a junkyard, you just have to get the axle flanges redrilled for Chevy pattern, cheaper and easier than you might imagine.
