67 Power Steering Pump Bolts Snapped!!!
Ok... kind of a big issue here...for me anyway! lol
I was using my 67 as my daily driver because my truck is being repaired... and I heard a squeaking under the hood and my power steering didn't seem right, almost like it was low on fluid.
WELL...when I looked at the power steering pump (?) - I assume it's the pump, it has a belt going to it (shared with the fan) and hoses that run toward a column that is connected to the steering wheel...
AND when I looked at the power steering pump there was a bolt missing where it bolts into the block. The other bolt looked loose. The whole pump could rotate around that one bolt. SO...I knew I didn't have another bolt to put in, so I thought well I'll tighten the one that's there until I get another.
When i went to tighten it - and I BARELY touched it, it snapped right off. SO doing a little digging I find out that's what happened to the one below it too.
SO now I'm sitting here without a car at all and wondering if it's possible to somehow drive the car to a garage to back out those bolts- but I would have to take the pump out to do so cause it's just laying there, and then what about the two hoses that go to the the steering?
Ugh. I think i'm in over my head and have no problem getting a mechanic- but I was hoping someone could help me with their thoughts and opinion on the whole thing.
Thanks

UPDATE!!!
OK- I got the power steering pump temp held in place and the belt is off, etc, etc.
My NEW QUESTION IS....
Is it ok to drive the car a couple times until the bolts get replaced? I was told that it would just mean that I wouldn't have power steering?

Your post scared me a little bit.
The heading says "water pump".
Yes. it's okay....but your steering box was designed to operate with PS and it will work MUCH harder. I would personaly keep it under a "couple of times".
Hopefully you won't be in heavy traffic.
