Default 67 Engine runs in key start pos. only

Hey everyone! This is my first time on this site and I am hoping someone can help me out. I have a 67 RS 350/350. I have the MSD 6a ignition box and distributor. My problem is that the engine will crank and fire but dies as soon as I release the key to run from start position. It will stay running if I leave it in start pos. I changed the ignition switch and no help. Any ideas?

Sounds like you may have hooked your ignition up to the 12 volt bypass wire that comes from the starter. In stock form, your car had/has a keyed resistance wire that fed about 10 volts to the coil so that the points wouldn't fry. There is another wire from the starter that fed the coil a full 12 volts only while cranking to ease starting. Then when the key is released to the run position, that 12 volts from the starter is off and the coil is fed resistance power. You need to run a good clean 12 volt line that is hooked up to keyed power (run position), and you no longer need the starter bypass wire.
