ok thus far I replaced the starter and the key ignition switch...

drove fine for a week then out of the blue not even a bump at the starter only radio lights etc work ,,, I \t was about 100 degrees in phoenix last weekend and it did this after she got hot,,, I had to again use a flat nose screw driver to hot start and turn the car over at the starter,,,

www.summitracing.com/parts/dei-010402 so ive taken the starter off and got another for it and have purchased this universal wrap from summit .. I have no headers but I do have a 383 stoker and I'm using a newer model 350 starter from auto zone dura last 3510 which I think is a truck starter as well ,..

so I agree its a heat problem and I'm hoping this will solve the matter .. my biggest concern is narrowing it so I'm not wasting monies please note,.

I offer two suggestions:
1. Remove and wire brush all parts of the red power wires in engine compartment, battery junction block, horn relay buss bar, alt BATT stud, and solenoid S terminal.
Heat will increase resistance in connections.
2. Temporality install a start button - hit ign switch, no crank, hit s/button, and cranks, purple wire has strands broken or firewall connection needs cleaning.

The factory heat shield isn`t very good. I have a 1979 Z-28 RS Camaro with a Supercharged small block Chevy and big tube headers. I use a Tilton mini-starter witha Moroso heat shield .And have not ad a problem..It it works with headers.Exhaust manifolds hold the heat in longer sitting. Its just the nature of the beast.

Most professionals that I know, won't use Auto Zone parts. They come with a guarantee, but it is a small relief when you have to have your car towed, or get under there and replace it.

Default universal wrap

the universal wrap is working quite well thus far as last Friday it was 107 degrees and she started each and every time, of course its only going to be 100 degrees this Friday tomorrow and we have only been in the cold 90s here in phoenix as we had some cold front come in,,,

i was hoping it would rain so i could take pictures and video since i forgot what rain looks like but thus far this universal wrap i bought is doing everything it stated it would do which is keep the heat off the solenoid.
