Default 67 camaro t-5 swap help needed

hi all, im new here and need help. I did a lot of research about putting a t-5 in my 67 Camaro and thought I finally had it all ready to go, until today! all the info I've gotten led me to this: A mid 80's Camaro t-5wc out of an v8 car for the best gears. tailshaft housing is t-5 out of a 2wd s-10 with mechanical speedo , which I was told would relocate the shifter 6" forward so it will line up with my Camaros factory console with gauges. I learned on my own, the hard way, that i'd also need a speedo drive relocater and a cast iron nosed starter to fit in my 767 bellhousing. well I did all this and the shifter is 6" in front of the factory hole in the floor. the console wont fit and i'll have to open the freaking ashtray to shift! how come everyone says this swap works but it absolutely does not!!! even if I didn't want to use the console the shifter is pushed too far forward. I was assured that I have the correct s-10 tailshaft housing but I need one that measure 16" from where trans meets bellhousing to the center of the shifter. I can fudge it an 1" or 2 , but this is crazy . help!!!! someone!!!! anyone!!!

I put a tko 600 in my 67. Got the complete kit from Silver Sport Transmissions. Shifter is right where the factory one was. Maybe worth giving them a call to see if they offer something that will help.
