Hi 40year 67. I am a 38 year old 69 350 SS Convertible with 104367 miles on the clock. I purchased the car in London England in 1974 and now we live in Cape Town South Africa. I have just bought the car into the 2011's with a new Hotchkis ATV suspention kit lowered by 2'' and their body strengthing kit, I also added Baer 11''F 13''R disc brakes to keep it on the road I added 17'' Bondspeed wheels. The rest of the car is as near to standard as I could do in South Africa. I would like a 4 speed auto box with overdrive as fuel is so expensive here. all the best with your mods

Hey, great to hear from you.Sounds like a cool camaro. The overdrive trans.really helps a lot on fuel milege and makes them pleasent to drive on the road.My chevelle convt.(cruiser) has a 4l60e with a rear gear ratio of 3.08 so that gives me a final ratio in overdrive of about 2.20/1.It just ideles down the road.I thought it would be too high but works suprisingly well.My camaro will be a bit more performance orintated so it will have a 3.73 rear with six speed.

Since you're looking for ideas and originality is not a main concern, I would build it the way you would have ordered it new in 1967.

Thanks, thats a great idea and a good way to look at it.The problem is though I could'nt order it with an aluminum ls motor such as an ls7(500+hp in bone stock form)in 1967with a t56six speed. This is what I want in a drivetrain. Its SO much better than anything you could get in1967-8-or even 69.The rest ,cosmetics, suspension, brakes, etc.is up for disscussion though.

if i hadn't already had an ls based engine this is probably what i would do too, but since i have had ls engines i wanted to get an old school carbed engine for a while. I guess i like the easiness of working on the carbed engine over every time i do any major mods to the efi engine i need to get it re-tuned which is expensive

Cape1969ss – Do you have any pictures of your ’69 Convertible Camaro? It must get a lot of looks there in Cape Town!

Hi Hotchkis I have photos but like 40yr67 I dont know how to put them on getting old you see like the car. I have tried to upload 2 pictures let me know if it worked, if you know how to do it let me know and I will try.
Yes it does get a lot of looks as it the only one in this area. Thanks for the equipment it works realy well. One problem we have speed bumps in our area with lowering the car 2'' I ground on most of them is there any way I can lift the rear end.

Once I have my photos uploaded to photobucket I find it easier to just right click on the photo and copy paste it to the message

I too have a 2" drop and bottomed out on every RR track and bump when I was running a set of 195/15's on the front and 235/15's on the rear. I'm now running 235's on the front and 255's on the rear and don't have any clearance problems bottoming out, and the car still looks cool!
