Default 67 Camaro - LT1/TH350 Swap Speedometer Not Working

A buddy of mine is buying a 1967 Camaro that has had an LT1 swap - 96 LT1 with TH350 trans.
He was told by the seller that the speedometer doesn't work. (I do not know if it ever worked.)
Any ideas what could be the issue? I know this is vague information, but I don't have much to go on at this point.
Does the TH350 have a VSS that runs the speedo? I would assume that the speedo in the 67 is mechanical. What, if anything, is needed to make them compatible with each other?

Thanks

Speedo is mechanical. Disconnect cable from speedo at cluster and drive Camaro in witnessing if cable turns.
No cable turning, wrong gear(s) in TH350.
If cable turns, bad speedo.

That's good info. Thanks a lot for the details. Once I have the car on site, I will definitely try that.
Thanks again.

If the inside wire cable doesn't turn, it could also be broken. Over the years, the inside of the sheathing drys out and the inside wire cable breaks. They sell replacement wire cables for that reason.
