I've been working on a '67 convertible. I picked up a seriously sweet 396, around 500hp/500ftlb. Now i need a tranny because, the 350 setup i was working one just won't hold the power. I want a manual transmission but the car will never have slicks on it and needs to be comfortable on the hwy. I've looked at tko 500's and t56's. Any other ideas, suggestions, or thoughts would be helpful also if kits are available and where to get em. A side question.... What bell housing does the 396 use 631?
Thanks for your help in advance!!!

I'd run a Lakewood scatter shield, stock bellhousings break under the torque of a Rat motor.
As for a tranny, hard to be a good old Super T-10 4speed,a Muncie M21 or preferably M22 will do as well if you go with a 4 speed.
I don't know that I'd want a 5 or 6 speed with a torque monster Rat motor, sometimes less gears is better IMHO with a big motor.
