1st Gen Camaro Assistance
Hello - I am new to this board and I was hoping to get some assistance from the 1st Gen. camaro crowd. I am in the market for my first '68 or '69 Camaro RS/SS - wife just fell in love with them. As I start my search for a vehicle I would like to get a list of recommended shops/contacts in the NE Illinois or S Wisconsin area who work/specialize on older vehicles. As you have guessed I am not very handy with cars and I am more of a dirver than a weekend tinkerer. Of course overtime I am wanting to develop some skills but would still like a list of contacts.
BTW, if you know of someone selling a '68 or '69 RS/SS with automatic (yep wife has to drive it) in the Illinois or Wisconsin area send me a PM. Budget is 40K. Convertible would be first choice, automatic, Condition 2 or better, no projects please, mechanically reliable.
Thanks.

40G should get you a decent convertible or a real sweet coupe. I just don't think you will get a real RS/SS for that price. you can probably get a real nice clone for that price though
I do have to say one thing about the wife though. I have 3 friends that "needed" an automatic because the wifesaid that's the only way they could get one. one search even took us three extra months to find a car. the reason I say this is that NOT ONE of their wives have driven any of their cars in 3 years and now they all wish they go ttheir sticks instead

I agree with 1969SS on both statements. 40k is a good starting budget. Check e-bay, whatch out for the scams, there arent many but there are some so be carefull. Also it will be your car, the wife will usually want to drive it but typically wont.
