1969 RS In Japan
Alright, here it goes,
My name is James, I am a Marine stationed in Okinawa, Japan. And o this island there is a small core of locals who are fans of American automobiles, and one of these locals has a 69 Camaro badged as a "RS" for sale. Now, I am no stranger to old GM vehicles, having being raised on Chevelles and LeSabres, and I myself own a 71 Cutlass S, but this is the first Camaro that I have been interested in buying to do any research. The owner say it is the original engine, but it has aluminum heads and an Air-Gap intake. The only thing on the stamp pad is the letters HB, I found out that that stands for a 300 horse 350 with 350 tranny. But from what I have been able to find says that you could not get the 300 horse 350 in an RS in 69, is this true, or was there a way around this like a COPO order form?
I have posted pictures of this car on myspace(easy and fast loading) so anybody with more knowledge can help me see if this car is an actual RS. Even if it not I, will might still buy it, $10,000 for a drivable 1969 Camaro is a good deal, that I do know.

I'm picking up a 69 for $9500 and it needs a little work so I'm thinking your getting a good deal. I would check and see about taking it back to the states. There was an article in stars and stripes (at least the middle east edition here in iraq) that was saying it is getting hard to get vehicles shipped back to the US without forking out some money, especially in Japan....
The HB code could also be a 327 from 1965-68. You would want to check the date casting on the block to make sure what it is, even though the owner "says" it's the original engine. If the 350 is the original matching block, then you might have an SS/RS model there (if it really is an RS). You'll want to dig a little deeper to determine what you have. But from the looks of the car, it's a pretty good deal whatever model it truly is.
