1969 Camaro, some advice will be appreciated!
Hello all,
Well, with summer approaching, I will soon begin working my baby. I really don't know where to begin. My Goal is to get it running towards the end of summer.
However, my car got hit with a good amount of rust on the rear left quarter panel. Should I look to get the quarter panel replaced or should I worry about getting it running first?
Some insight would be appreciated.

Personally, I prefer it running sound, than looking pretty. Unless its a very large spot, I would say get it running first. Worst case scenario, you could get it running, have the summer to drive it, and let a body shop deal with it through next winter.

x2 on the pics. The answer could go either way, depends on the extent of the rust. If you have rust on the rear quarter - you probably have rust elsewhere, the closest answer would be to get it fixed first - then again who wants to work on a car with fresh paint to be inevitably scratched up.

Word. Get pics 1st and the answers later... However, "then again who wants to work on a car with fresh paint to be inevitably scratched up." that is the right idea...

Body work can be expensive or time consuming if you do it yourself...like cplthomas said if you have rust on the leftrear quarter panel there is most likely rust other places. To me their would be nothing worse then getting a car running the way you want and then you realize that the body workis gonna put you in over your head.

~Put some pics up, there are plenty of people on this forum that could give you excellent advice on body work~

You really need to explore that rust. Many of these cars have had cosmedic only paint jobs. The rust has been covered up over and over again. Since it is a unibody the Camaro relies on the body parts for strength. I am not saying your car will fall apart but if you are putting in a new power plant you really need to know whats going on inside that unibody. You don't want stress cracks and alignment issues.

Sorry, I've been away.
But once I get my digi cam, Ill put some pics up.
But I've explored the car already. I purchased it with pretty much a lot of work done. Firewall was worked on, new floor pans, new trunk pan, etc..
If anything, the majority of the rust is the exterior skin (ex. Quarter Panel).
I know for sure that the quarter panel will def. need replacing as well as the wheel house.
This thread will be slow up until the summer time when I really get started on it.
