Default 1968 ss369 Vert

Guys,

85 IROC, 87 IROC, 93 Z28. Took a break, decided I wanted to be a Corvette guy. Always loved a 68 Camero. Tonight, decided I would part with my 05 C6 for a possible 68 396SS Convertable. The car is solid. Not rust, good under, etc. Good paint, most of the interior is orignal(in good shape). I did research, check with my classic car buffs. Still not sure if I done good.

Cowl Tag not bolted on, would you take it off to repaint?
Hoses run into the firewall like a BB(claims it 396/350)
Single leaf spring
Front Disk brakes
No gauages(by the shifter)
Could not read the engine numbers
I'm pretty sure it was a 10-bolt

Should I be concerned with any of that? Bottom line, it looks and runs good and I will enjoy, just wondering if I have been taken for a little bit of a ride.

Any help would be appreciated.

FNG

Mono leaf and 10 bolt sounds an alarm.I'm pretty sure all BB versions had 12 bolt multileaf.Heater core and rad are differant on the BB also.Do some more digging on this one is it an SS .What is the trim tag code?

was this a straight trade? if it was, then I think you may have gotten taken. all V-8s had multileaf springs (except the lower HP versions of the 327). you should have a different SS hood than the 350 versions. not sure on the rearend details

if the car is a solid car, it is worth mid 20s all day long even if it isn't an SS

Not an even trade. The father-in-law gets the C6(keep it in the family).

I left the codes at home, will have to post later.

I've been doing more reserach. Was the single leaf and 10-bolt an option with a 396? The guy selling it told me it was. Where there non-SS 396s? I guess someone could have drop this motor in a 327/350, but my understanding is hooking it up would have been tricky. The only other 396SS Convert I found on -line had the multi-spring and 12 bolt.

I would like toget the car as correct as possible.

again, the car should have multileaf springs. going from a smallblock to a bigblock is easy as pie. the hardest "visual" part is the heaterbox and that isn't that hard either.

an unseen part that many people neglect to do, is to change the 5/16 fuel line to the proper 3/8. that is probably, most commonly overlooked

My education continues. This is good stuff.

OK, so I've got a 68(Proborginally 327, Non-SS) with a 396, SS badges, 10-bolt, single leaf. Solid car, no rust, fairly new top, 80K miles, very good paint. I guess I'd call it a 10 footer. What would should I offer? I've check all over and found a wide range of prices.

If I bought it, would it be better to 'correct it' back to a 68/327, etc. or put a new rear on it? I'll still enjoy it, just looking a future options.

if you buy it, just make it the way you enjoy it. to me, unless a car is an unmolested genie, then I wouldn't hesitate to change things to my way. hell......even if it was original I would probably rip it apart anyway. JMO

too hard to guess a price without at least many detailed pics. could be anywhere for ten grand to thirty grand, and that would be just from pictures taken from the 'ol 10 foot distance, without detailed pics
