1968 Camaro convertible

We did a few more things today, and decided after getting the narrowed stainless gas tank in that we should start it. Wouldn't start, and after some checking I found the distributor off about 90 degrees! Stabbed it correctly, and put some gas down the carb and she fired right off. Unfortunately after several attempts to get gas up to the pump, the battery died. So had to charge it before we try again. Had no side pipes on it, so it sounded pretty nice, but a bit loud.
Did a check on the front alignment also, as whoever did his chassis just bolted iit up, and really didn't even get things close. Visible toe out in the front. I used a straight edge and level to plumb down across the front wheels, and in a 4' straight edge it had an inch of toe out. Readjusted the tie rods to get it back in line, and just a couple degrees toe in.

Thanks. Yes, it's actually coming together very fast, and better than I thought. I don't want to spend too much time on it, as I'm getting ready to break ground on my new shop, and can't be involved much longer after it starts.

Fired off the 427 today! Sounded really great, and even without the side pipe mufflers, it was still not overly loud. Just the spiral baffles in the collector cut the sound down enough to not run us out of the garage. The engine doesn't have a big radical cam, so it idles smoothly, with just a small lope.
Had one small issue. The return power steering line had a pinhole leak in the metal tubing, and made a big mess of the header, and subframe. Now have to clean that up, after we replace the line. All new hoses, and pressure side line in it, and foiled by one little 5" hard 90 line.

Yes, a big block V8 definitely has a sound that's unique. I love that this engine is an early 1967, (2nd year) BBC 427.

Long time since any updates. Mainly because my buddy has been shooting paint, and it's finally done. Not my idea of what I like, but it certainly does look sinister in satin black!
Today we hung all the chrome and stainless trim on it. Mounted the trunk lid, hood, doors, grille, taillights, wheelwell moldings, bumpers, and badging. He got SS 427 badges for front, back and front fenders, so not doubt what it is. He had a cowl induction hood modified by cutting the hood vent section out of a donor hood, and had them welded into the cowl section of his hood. The chrome factory vents on a cowl hood look very unique, and like something Chevy should have done!
We had one heck of a time with the aftermarket outer door handles. The stock door handles are 1/8" longer spacing between the two mounting screws than the new repros. We had to use a jeweler's file to open the holes slightly towards each other and get them to fit. Similar issues with bumpers, and had to work the brackets a bit to get everything to line up, and sit properly on the body.
Just need to install the interior now, and it's a done deal! I'll let him do that part, unless he runs into problems.

Well my buddy's Camaro went away today! Not quite finished, but he decided he needed the money, since he's been off work a long time!

Yes, it has about $35k he invested into parts, and someone got a real bargain, and an awesome Camaro. Wont take much to finish paint, and interior, and have a very nice pro street Camaro.
