I just bought a 1968 Camaro that I plan on using as a daily driver. Its not a numbers matching car or anything, i bought it to be a driver. I will be living in Texas next year and there is only a heater installed right now. Any suggestions on the AC, and how easy of an install would this be to do at home?

 

first off, if it's not an original application, don't even bother trying to go with a factory unit.

I have installed some 'Vintage Air' units in old hot rods (30's era), and even without those being direct fit applications, they were real easy.

In one case the owner wanted to re-wire a complete car a few years after we built it, and after disassembly he realized he lost the directions for the Vintage Air' unit. just going on memory (which mine sucks) and some common sense, I was able to completely rewire the entire unit again without any problems.

if you bought one for a Camaro, it would be a complete bolt-in kit so it would be even easier.

I tell you all of this, and the electrical systems aren't even my strongpoint, so I say if you have some decent ability just go for it!

 

Thanks for the advice. I have looked at several vintage air units online and they seem to be going for about $1200. Maybe I will order one of these and try it out.
