My 67 has water coming in through the rear taillights every time I wash the car. I’ve changed the gaskets twice and no luck at all. Still puddles of water come in. I was told to use silicone on the frame housing between the gasket and the body but I don’t want to mess up the paint in case I ever have to change the gasket in the future. Can anyone give me any ideas ? I’m

 

Have you checked to make sure the water isn't coming through the lens and not around them ??

Climb inside trunk with a flash light. Close lid and have someone on outside with hose running water around edges, lights etc. and look for water leaking on inside.Worked for me.

 

Have you considered giving your car a sponge bath instead? The garden hose method is the worse way to wash a classic car, getting water in a bunch of places you don't want it to go.

 

Worked for finding my trunk leak after trying to figure out were water was coming from. Each to there own opinion.

 

I didn’t realize that there are two gaskets involved with the tail lights. One for the housing and one for the lens. The lens gasket is gone so I think that is the problem. I ordered them so when they come I’ll give that a try. I’ll let u guys know if it works. Thanks guys for the feedback

 

The sponge bath idea sounds great but how do I get the soap off without water? Ideas?

 

You don't need soap, plain old water gets dirt and grime off just fine. Soap is good for removing grease, oil, or wax though.

 

I was only kidding about the soap. Lolol. I know water gets off dirt. But. The water is the problem. Remember ? Trunk leak. Someone said deal with the leak and don’t use water. Just sponge bathe her.
