Default 1967 427 motor

I have an opportunity to buy a 1967 427 425hp out of a chevy impala. Originally the motor had solid lifters. block and crankshaft are together everything else is in boxes.

I get the block, heads "not aluminum" crank, water pump, cast aluminum intake, and open chamber cast headers. What should I be prepared to spend? Or maybe a better question is if you could buy one for $1,000.00 bucks would you?

if the block is good, that is a good deal
maybe ask if you could take the block to a machine block and have it cooked and crack checked at your cost.
if you buy it you should do that anyway

Yes I agree but from what I've read the 425 hp engine was no longer available in Impalas in 1967 the last year was 1966.
There was the 385 hp 427 as the top hp 427 in Impala in 1967 with a hydraulic cam, maybe yours is a '66 or not original to the car? Or possibly a Corvette engine? Or just the 385hp 427?
I'd still want it at $1000 if it is a good 427.

Yes, good deal, even if not original engine.
Check engine code on pad for engine ID and date code.

Thanks for the info. This guy has had the motor for 30 years. He pulled it from the Impala at his uncles wrecking yard. He is going to send me the photos of the engine code. I will post them here once I get them.

Interesting little read here, if it is a '67 L72 (425hp-427) it's a rare as hens teeth find and would be one of 11 built but never installed in a car from the factory.
Now that would be a real game changer if it could be confirmed by an expert but I wouldn't say anything to the seller. lol
Odd that they brought it back in '68 and '69 as an option in full sized cars although only a few were actually built.
Looks like in '67 not even the Corvette had that option as the L89 435hp replaced it, same internals just had the 3 duce carbs and intake instead of the single 4bl.

Strange as you suggest Y2K, I remember plenty of BBC Impala's and some with 4-spd's in the early '70's.
One of my high school buddies, '68, had a '68 Impala coupe with a 425 HP BBC and 4-spd.. I'm not doubting you, just going from memory - good ones.
We both were always running against each other, I had a '64 /close ratio 4-spd Impala with a DZ302 in it, I put in after the OE 327-300 HP split its block from a lifter exploding, and after 4000 RPM, it puilled.
I was always along side of him. Great street memories.

I had a friend in high school who had a '67 SS 427 4 speed and kept it up until his death a couple years back, his family still has it and it's near mint.
The 427's were available in '67 just not the 425 hp for some odd reason.
1966 you could get the 425 and again in 68 and 69,so yeah pretty strange.
Love those big Chevys,I also had a '67 two door fastback but it was just a 283 and powerglide, smooth cruiser it was though.
I had a beautiful '68 Deluxe fastback with the 275hp 327 Turbo 400 and 3.08 10 bolt posi, one owner car with less than 100K miles on it when I got it in 1976.

My '64 was not a SS, bench seat, triple black BTW, which I enjoyed as girlfriend then was next to me driving. remember this?
When challenged, she would slide over to pass side and buckle up.
It had a Muncie shifter in it and I would shift using my wrist at the bottom of the shifter as pivot point was 1 inch below the floor - faster shifts and adjust the clutch for 0.060" of clearance.
Great times/memories indeed.
