Okay so my car **** out on me last sunday. I knew the fuel pump was bad so sure enough after testing thats what it was. I used the hatch method* and i must say, after initial testing today my car is running so much better. Airtex fuel pump FTW

* I would personally go a little just a little bit wider on the left and right side incisions if u use this method.

ok i was wondering if those mesurements were big enough. i know ive read of guys going bigger and use the indentations to mount to but none of the pictures i found showed that and the pic i used had measurments to use so a guy had an idea were he could cut and not hit any fuel lines. thanks for the comments.

 

On the left, the one that says one inch exactly, be careful beacuse that line is very close to the top. so if you use a die grinder or sawzall(like me ) just watch for it.

 

I have to put a notch in drivers side front so I could get to the connector. Other then that I am very close to the original dimension. When I cut the notch I left one side connected and just bent the sheet metal away. When I was done I bent it back and sealed it up.

 

Id recomend airtex for some things, high performance no, crap v6 sure lol. and i picked mine up so i could just have it right away

 

Airtex makes great stuff for OEM replacement. They are just that OEM replacement and not intended for HP applications. I used to sell Carter pumps and I would get them back every now and then. We have been selling Airtex pumps now for just about a year and I have not personally returned one and I think I have only seen 2 or 3 in the warranty bin in the last year. Ok you got my business.

This is the picture I used to make my cut. I measured the horizontal cut between the grooves, and was able to determine how long to make my verticle cut.


As you can see, the newer cars require a much smaller cut.
