Default New Camaro Owner! Need Advice!I

I have had my 2011 Camaro 2 LT/RS package for the last 3 months and it's a great ride. I live in NY however, never owned a RWD before, and mother nature is about to unleash snow on us. Any advice on tires? I was thinking of buying smaller, stock rims off another Camaro to be able to find affordable winter tires. Chevy says I can damage the car and void my warranty. Any truth to that? Any advice on tires??

I am wondering about that, as well. I'd prefer to get smaller rims for affordability.

If you drive slow and carefully, you shouldn't have too much trouble driving in the snow. But if you're that worried about it, get some good studded winter tires. Shouldn't be more than $400 for two, but don't quote me on that.

If your came came with all weather tires (M&S on sidewall) you should be able to get by by driving gently. If it came with summer tires, you may as well park it every time it snows. If you go for snow tires, narrower is better than wide. Wide tires float on top of the snow and can't get a grip.
Here in the Poconos we had a 10" snowfall a few weeks ago, and had to take my lil 16 year old Audi 90Q and go rescue my son on I-84. He said his car (2011 Challenger Hemi RT) behaved so badly that he was afraid to drive it, and parked at a rest stop. The Challenger has ZR 245-20 summer tires. The Audi has 205-15 wheelbarrow size wheels, and goes through any snow that is lower than the floorboard. I imagine the Camaro and Challenger will misbehave about the same in the snow.

I have the same car as you in a 2LT/RS. I actually just put on my Winter tires this afternoon. I went with 19" x 8" Replika BMW M6 rims on all 4 corners because they weren't much more than the steelies and look far better, plus the narrower tires will carve better in the snow. I bough Pirelli Scorpion Ice/Snow tires which came highly recommended. You could even go down to an 18" wheel if you wanted to and save even more $$$. I'm sure TireRack.com has something similar, but check out Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing which will help you compare the overall stock raduis to that of the rim/tire combo you want.

Here are a couple shots of the new boots:
