I recently purchased a '14 SS w/1LE package. I decoded the VIN previously and it said I have the L99 motor. Now I decoded it here on this forums VIN decoder and it states I have an LS3! Can anyone help me out? Which letter in the VIN determines the motor actually in my car? Or is there another way to be sure of the exact motor in the car? Any help is much appreciated so I can start getting the right mods for the car. Thanks!!!!

 

Eight digit of the VIN tells what engine the car came with.

LS3 was installed in manual trans cars.

L99 was installed in auto trans cars.

Main difference is the LS3 has more power (430HP/424TQ), but the L99 (400HP/410TQ) has Active Fuel Management, VVT, and is flex fuel compatible. The L99 will run on only four cylinders under light load.

 

So my 8th digit is a W and I have a manual tranny , so I have an LS3. Cool, good to know . Thanks
