Today is just the beginning
Where are the 6-8 week orders located? Here in KC the dealer told me the earliest I'd be able to get the car is November. I haven't ordered yet, but am probably going to here in the next week or so.
Granted he could have been quoting me worst case but it didn't sound like it cause he showed me a full page of people who have placed orders on the car that are still waiting for it.

Well my dealership is located in Norman, OK. At the unveiling, they told me it could be a year or more, but then they called saying that an allocation opened up so they purchased it and Now its September at the latest. From the way I understood it, each dealership has to buy an allocation of so many cars that they can order and it is in a certain place in "line". I guess one opened up towards the front and my dealer jumped on it. Hope all goes well, everyone is starting to make me nervous thinking that maybe I'll get it later than expected, I hope not!!!
yeah the 6 month quote i got from my salesman was the worst-case scenario (and that was may 26th when i placed the order) and it included the estimated 5 weeks to get allocation (which has been the average for this dealer)...so that would put the estimate at just under 5 months at worst case scenario for just the order to go through production...but my salesman was telling me how the ss manual orders alone jumped up from 14,000 to 20,000 in a surprisingly short period of time and that's why these conservative estimates were being quoted because there are a lot of orders in the system already
i guess one thing to think about would be what kind of orders are ahead of us and what kind of camaros we ordered...the v6 engine is a very advanced engine i would say it's a little more technologically advanced than the v8 (in order to make 304 horsepower out of a v6 engine is pretty impressive) so the v8 engines might be easier to assemble...yes/no??
okay so this is all just speculation and chatter of someone trying to fill his time until the car arrives so i guess i'll give this topic a little more thought lol...
true the v6 engine, being pretty advanced might take a little longer to assemble if it were 100% human-assembled and toward the beginning of it's learning curve in production...but both the v6 and v8 engines have been taken from other platforms (cadillac cts and corvette) and have already progressed along their learning curves in production so i don't think it would matter too much whether more v6 orders were ahead of our v8s in production or not...yeah since production has progressed along the learning curves and a lot of production processes are mechanical nowadays it's probably about the same...although i don't know much about the L99 has it been used before or was it developed specifically for the camaro? i know it's based on the LS3 but i don't know if it was ever used in an automatic corvette because i want to say that it wasn't...but who knows? if it is the case that the L99 is camaro specific then it might be a different issue with the v8 automatics because that engine's production would still be moving along it's learning curve
i guess i started this reply with the self hope that there might be more v8 orders ahead of us and that v8 orders take less time but as you can tell i haven't really gone anywhere in my reasoning haha...plus the reality is that chevy is going to sell more v6s than v8s lol so i'm back where i started...going crazy hoping that somehow it won't take 6 months for us to see our brand new babies!! lol

so i've almost reached the 1 month milestone in my wait...
i've checked on other forums and have looked at the progression of the order status codes and to get to code 2000 (accepted by GM) it has been taking about 2 months on average
but from that moment on it takes only about 1 and 1/2 months to 2 months on average to be produced and delivered to the dealer...
so i'm a little more optimistic now...maybe 3-4 months instead of 6 months...that still seems like a lot but hey 60 to 90 days makes a big difference lol...
so obviously i'm hoping for the 3 months total now...once it get's accepted by GM it goes pretty fast

I just don't get it -- how can the wait be SO long -- I understand they really want to get the quality down, but people want to give GM money for a car -- it seems they need to have more than one plant building these, or ramp up the existing one...
i think one thing that makes the wait long for us is that they are ss orders...i read an article by popular hot rodding magazine that says that v6 orders, no matter when they are placed, have complete priority over ss allocations because chevy wants no more than 50 percent of the orders to be ss's and the rest to be v6s obviously...but ss orders have been at around 80 percent...

i honestly don't know how old the article is or if it can be confirmed by any dealers who might happen to be a member of this forum...but this might explain some of the red tape (although it does not justify it, damnit! lol)
believe me i have asked myself the same question too...why would a company filing for bankruptcy create so much red tape for people that are able, willing, and even eager to give them $36,000 right now? are the long-term marketing consequences of an oversatuated market that significant to turn away capital-inflow to a bankrupt company? i don't think so honestly...
i wish it were less of a wait but what can i do?...cancel right now and go out and buy a mustang gt? i don't think so...the nicest v8 mustang you can price up comes out to about the same as the 2SS RS...i don't understand why a company should be so hesitant to sell its product that it spent 8 years bringing back!!
if Chevy is so worried about an oversatuated market and decreasing demand why doesn't it just stay ahead of the curve and keep offering new features on the camaro every year...wait, it already is going to do that with the convertible...what's the deal GM?

well my order got placed yesterday sounds like you'll be getting yours sooner than me
the sales manager that called to confirm with me last night quoted out to september, though my actual salesman said its been running about 6-8 weeks. . .so i thinking late august early september still. . .I asked what title he was putting on the car for production so that I could call and track it and he said he was just going to put my name rather than a number. . .??? Is once a month too often to call the dealer and check on my baby?? haha

Sounds like you all are better off than me. When I placed the order the dealer said he wouldn't be able to get the actual order in until late August/early September and the car wouldn't arrive til November/December. I'm hoping what yall are saying about the 1 month delivery from order date is accurate. That would put my arrival date at October/November.
well actually you will probably get yours before mine...even though i submitted the preliminary order before yours mine still hasn't been allocated...they told me the next allocation should be mine so the first of july GM should accept the order...
i have to admit i got pretty worried when i read that article but i think i've calmed down since then lol...did you guys get a chance to read that article? it was pretty upsetting, but i think we will be okay...
from what i saw on the other forums, once you get a status 2000 code the 6-8 week is right on with very little variation...so i think since they called to confirm your status 2000 code it looks like you're in the clear for 6-8 arrival at the dealership, which isn't too bad i must admit and i think you will be the first out of all of us here
congrats on getting the status 2000 code!! lol it's something the rest of us are still waiting for
