Removing the governor?
The governator retired, and is now in trouble for cheating on his wife. There is no physical governor on these cars and therefore it cannot be removed. There is a speed limiter program in the ECM/PCM which turns off the injectors after a certain speeed is reached. This program can be disabled using a hand held programmer or using a PC loaded with tuning software.

Holy dead thread bat man!!
OK how about this go ahead and remove the governor from the trans (yes there is still one in the trans) and see how well the car runs. Hell you will be lucky to even get it to move with out one. Learn what the governor does before you ask about removing it.
Also is 150MPH to slow for you? That is about the speed limit for the 2ss and that is not from a speed limiter in the engine that is just all the faster the car will go with the factory set up. BTW the speed limiter in the 2ss is set for 255 MPH. it is the highest number you can set with only 8 bits of information available.

I didn't even realize that the OP was from 2006. Wow!!!
But you wanna tell me that a stock LT1 Z will outrun (top speed) a stock 2SS that is 16 years newer?!? There is something wrong with that picture...

You need to look at the shape of the cars. The old one is shaped like a missile, the new one is like two bricks stacked on top of each other. It takes a lot of power to push air out of the way at high speed, and a brick shape makes it worse.
This is all from memory, so I cant quote sources. But 155 is where the limiter is set on the 5G from the factory, maybe 255 is the highest that it can be programed to and thats what they set it to when they "turn it off". Without it it is limited by design to around 180. Again, dont remember where I saw the 180 number, but I think it was pop mechanics or something similar.
