Question "First Oil Change"

I have owned my 2010 camaro now for 5 months and have 1200 miles on it now, when should I get that first oil change? Should I get it changed at the mileage the manual says or sooner because I'm a low mileage driver?

I'd say follow the maintenance schedule you get with the car. 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. The thing should be in the little folder that comes with the owner's manual.

Low mileage driving, I would use every six months for a oil & filter change. 3month with little mileage is just a waste of money. I followed this scheldue since my car was new 23yrs ago. Will you still be original owner as long I have.???

Which tells you to do it when the light comes on. Mine was about 6000 miles and 8 months. Supposedly the formula takes driving and time into account, supposedly being the key word.

This is just me, and to each his own. Each of the new cars/trucks I have purchased I have changed the oil and filter @ 1500 miles, then I follow the mainsche. Why, its new and will have seen the most wear it will likely see during your ownership, based on the average time people keep their vehicles. I tenf to keep my pst the average by 3 years.

One of the first things I did was install a magnetic drain plug. It pulls any of the micro particles that a new engine will create. That was my piece of mind.

GM actually has one of the best oil life indicators out there. I'd say do it when about 25% oil life remains.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I just keep it to the schedule- 5000 kilometers up here, which for me is about two months of daily driving.

'sides, I'm constantly accidentally resetting my oil life indicator. I go to change my units from metric to english so I can understand my gas mileage, and if I happen to be stopped when I do, I reset the thing. :/
