2010 rs valve tapping
new to the forum, glad to be among bowtie people! i have a 2010 camaro rs. have valve pinging at 1500 rpm latley, bad at times, quiet at others.have installed k&n cold air intake, bbk long tube headers equipped with high flow cats(cats blowing 500 psi), and flowmaster exhaust.brought it back to the dealer, they did a trans update to adjust the timing, made it worse.had it in a second time, and timing was re-checked, was in line with specs. was orig, running no ethanol gas, was told to switch to top tier gas and run tekron fuel injector cleaner, done so twice.pinging still exists.dealer contacted gm, and basically blamed it on the aftermarket cats, so warrenty is voided.please help!

I don't understand the "cats blowing 500 psi" part, as it makes no sense. However, if the valves are tapping, as you indicated, then most likely is a valve train problem or the wrong type oil being used. The timing part also makes no sense, as timing is computer controlled and not adjustable. I assume you have the V6 engine, which is very complicated, with VVT and direct timed injection, and should not be messed with, unless you really know what you are doing, and have the proper test equipment. Good luck. really.

Z28 pete , it is a v6, i mentioned the cats blowing 500 because the dealer said that was the main problem, i do have a check engine light on.since headers were installed. Code comes up as cats registering to much air flow. I have always ran the reccomended oil 5 w30, castrol. Really stuck on this, so if u have any more questions or advice i am all ears. , the valves only tap at that exact rpm 1500, car does not lack any power since this problem came up. Noticed tge valved tapping a couple months after headers and cats were pit on, i do have all orig parts still, was gona put stock cats bk on , because dealer was pressing that as the problem.

The dealer is going to find any excuse not to fix it, but personally I don't believe the cats have anything to do with the problem. I suspect that the valves making noise at 1500 rpm could have something to do with the VVT.

Could the air/ fuel mixture running through the cats b off do to the cats being high flow. The original cats r restricted, i was told that could b a factor.check engine light came on right after headers ans cats were put on

will get back 2 u on that tomr, i had a family x mechanic install all of my mods. but i am pretty sure o2 sensors were re installed.actucally i am 99% sure because the car was on his lift 2 days ago, checking for a rubbing from exhaust on the body for a possible cause of pinging, until we narrowed it down to the engine!
