LT1 Tapping?
So still in the market for the Camaro and looking into one that he says is tapping up top and he says its common for these cars sitting for a while
is it really common for the cars sitting for a while or is he just trying to sell it and get rid of it???

"Oh...they all do that". Does he wear a polyester suit too?
Lifters can get gummed up or sludgy from sitting for a long time, and then make noise. I bought a 3rd gen a couple of years ago that had been sitting at least two years with a bad fuel pump. When I got it running, it had a lifter noise after start up but it went away once the engine warmed up. It was like that for probably a month, then suddenly one day the lifter noise was gone and never came back. It took a while for that one to clear out, but it finally did. Yours could be a crap shoot, it might go away and it might not.

It is not normal for a tapping sound in an LT1, unless they put in solid lifters and did not adjust the rockers properly (highly doubtful).
At any rate, buying a used car can be a crap shoot under the best of conditions. I'd listen to the engine cold - don't let him start it and warm it up before you get there and hear what it sounds like. If the tapping goes away after a minute or so, you could be looking at the scenario Camaro69 described.
Also, if it is a light sounding tapping, that doesn't cause nearly as much concern as something you can hear from across the Walmart parking lot.
If it stays longer, there could be something more seriously wrong with it. Unless it was a phenominal deal, I'd probably walk away from it. Got more than enough projects cluttering up the house / garage / yard right now.

agree with the guys above. if its a real steal and the car is very clean inside and out i would think about it, for sure. thing is i would buy it with the goal of building it so the motor and running gear would be gone threw either way. ah the op got a double post too. i dont feel so bad now. lol.
