Default tranny won't go into park

A few weeks ago I installed a new rebuilt 4L60E into my 98 Z28. I had to replace the shift cable because original one was broken. The shifter cable is not strong enuf to move the vehicle completely into park. Sometimes it gets hung in reverse, or gets it just far enough of reverse so that the vehicle will roll, and the engine can be started, and key removed....

I can move the lever on the trans by hand into park, but the shift cable bows and does not get the lever far enuf forward to engage park.

suggestion would be appreciated....

i think there is still a problem with the cable, i know that on worn cables it stops gears enaging. Is there a mount somewhere that stops the cable bowing where it hooks into the trans or clips on? is the cable oem?

Thanks for responding...there is a metal bracket that bolts to the trans pan...the cable is bowing between that bracket and the shift lever on the transmission. I have ordered a NEW shift cable from the local GM dealer, so when it gets here tuesday I guess I will see if it works or not....

perhaps someday my camaro will look as nice as yours..that's a nice ride...mine was rode hard by the previous owner and I am basically rebuilding her...new alternator, new starter, new battery, new 3.73 gears, and new rebuilt transmission, FIPK, New SLP exhaust all in less than 4 months..sigh...will need a power steering pump before long, it is leaking

Default tranny wont go into park

I have a 1992 Ford F-150 High mileage 4 wheel drive automatic. My problem is I cant get my truck to shift into park without crawling under the truck and shifting it into park manually. Does anyone know what the problem is? _______________________________________Website I designed for faxless payday loans company.

i hope the GM cable solves your problem, the trans sound fine if you can still engage it manually. Who did you get to build your trans, im getting cam soon and dont want to blow the box so im either gonna get parts or buy a trans.

Glad you like the look of my motor, you'll have to get some pics up of your. Funnily enough i have practically rebuilt mine due to my own stupid actions when i spun it on the higway, i dont drive it hard to the point of abuse, i just made a silly mistake but oh well. It would have been a total wreck but its back now as my father and I rebuilt it with a donor car, that car contains my blood, sweat and tears! I apprishiate it much more after you go through that, im sure you'll love you motor when it done

Got the new GM cable and installed and it works!!! Apparently the used and worn cables just didn't have the strength to get it all the way into park
