bellhousing question
well, after a couple of rounds of trial and error, it seems a small piece at the bottom of my bellhousing was cracked and broken off, which was causing my 95 3.4 not to shift into the gears while running. Of course this was discovered after changing the clutch assy, and the clutch master and slave cylinder's as well. I know very little about working on cars, but I have a new found interest since I have been "sitting in" while my camaro has been "under construction." I'm curious as to why this small crack in the bellhousing would cause the car not to shift into any of the gears (meaning once I start it in neutral, and then try to shift) and also, since I'm in the market for a used bellhousing, are there other vehicles (year, make, model, ect...) that use the same bellhousing as the one in my car? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks! [sm=gears.gif]
I wish I could help, but im in the same boat with my 98 V6 3800 II. I actually have two Camaros with busted tranny's. Sucks, I have a spare 700R4 but its going in my 87 Camaro this weekend. Im also in the market for a used third gen V6 tranny.
[:@] yeah, its very frustrating, because i just bought the car and i havent even really been able to drive it yet! Just as soon as I think I have it pinned down, and everything gets put back together, I hold my breath and start the car, and...nothing. It sucks. Hopefully this next repair will be the one that does the trick. It shouldn't be too difficult. I actually don't need a tranny, the one that is in my car is fine, I just need the bellhousing itself. 93-95 camaro's are tough to find in my area, so I'm hoping there is another vehicle that has the same bellhousing as my camaro, or that I can use one from an older v6 t-5. If it effects the clutch fork or the shifter linkage, that would prevent the transmission from shifting. Also check the fluid level of the trans to make sure the bearings are still good. Did you replace the pilot bearing with the new clutch? The input bearings could be burnt or you could be missing some teeth for the synchros.
Hopefully you'll figure this out.
As far as I know, I do not see any other Chevy models of that time period with the same size motor in them.

If you also look at the 3.8L's all the other cars are FWD.

yes, actually. i still have the piece that broke off. it is fairly small. Maybe 4 inches long, tops and i'd say less than than an inch tall. my only concern is that the piece that is broken off has one of the holes for a bolt to go into it. the hole is still intact (if that makes sense) i'm just afraid welding it will cause it to be weak in the area that the bolt goes into. i guess as long as its done right and is a solid weld, it should be fine.
