I have an '87 IROC z-28 with a carburated (750cfm QJ) 305 engine. Second owner, with only 3600 original miles on it.
Here's my question. The intake is cast iron and the valve covers are steel. Shouldn't this engine have an aluminum intake and valve covers? My last Z came that way, but that was in '71. And it had a Holley carburator. I just want to be sure I have the original engine.
Most everybody else I know that has an IROC Z has the TPI setup. The dealers can't tell me one way or another either. The ID stamp on the front of the engine is buried under accessories so I can't read it. And, to be honest, I don't feel like digging it out just to read it.
Anybody else out there have the LG-4 engine with a cast iron intake?
Geno.
