I smell gas when I drive. It doesnt happen right away but after 10 or so minutes of driving I can smell it. I have opened up the hood and Idon't smell it under there. I've done a quick glance under the car and the lines don't look rusted. There are no puddles on the ground. Can anyone tell me if there areknow problems with smelling gas for this car. Could it be the gas cap??? Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks.

 

Is the check engine light on? My firebird's been doing the same thing, although i got a P0442, evap circiut malfunction or something, the gascap is what caused it but it came back, does it only smell like gas on the drivers side? Thats what i noticed

 

its either from too much Taco Bell, or your exhaust. Your smelling unburnt fuel.

 

mine did that. cuz the guy before me drilled 2 holes in top of gas tank, to mount amplifier. it will throw, least for me "auxilary emission" code, and then later, it ruined, least i think, my EGR valve, not so it was malfunctioning, but so i had EGR code getting spit too. it mite be diff for you, but thats what mine was, and reason you dont smell it till 10min later, is cuz the gas starts slopping around in tank, coming out of the holes, etc. although i dont know if this is same for you.

 

Yes the gas smell is strongest on the drivers side, but the passengers can smell it too. No check engine light.

 

I had a 3.8L and i smelled gas, my problem was one of my injectors was going bad and leaking out onto the intake. Check along your fuel rail to see if any puddles of fuel around the intake.

 

I have a 97 3.8 and had the same problem as ninteysixyenko. Someone mounted an Amp in the trunk and it went right through and put a hole in my gas tank. What was happening when I smelled the gas wasit was leaking on the exhaust [sm=sigh.gif].. so it didn't leave a puddle but smelled strongly of gas.

 

mine never leaked. but it came up thru the holes a lil bit when it slopped around, and left gas smelling stains on the carpet. nothing major. jus didnt fill tank up past 3/4s and it was fine.
