Ok for all you Sec Gen Smart guys????
So I am working on my 71 BB T-56 project https://camaroforums.com/forum/70-81...project-71541/ and I am installing a new set of gears.
So it has a sway bar installed and I am wondering if it was made for this car or did someone "southern engineer" it?? The upper mounts were bolted on but also look like the had been welded also and didnt appear to fit right? It is missing one of the link bars? But I have some bushings left from my 4x4 stuff so I could actually make some new ones?
OK so my question is this. Is this an aftermarket sway bar that was made for this car or not?

 

I dont know much about the early second gens,i've only had the later year ones,but it appears to be factory,or at least that is how the ones mount on the later year cars.

 

The swaybar and the base mounted on the rear frame rail look just like mine, but it looks like someone modified the frame with some reinforcement. That could have been done to accomodate a stock swaybar mount, or repair one that tore loose. Camaros without swaybars didn't get the nuts and holes in the rear frame, so you couldn't install a swaybar without doing something to get nuts or holes in the frame rails.
Have you pulled the mount to see if the frame has nuts behind the plate, or if they tapped the plate to accomdate mounting?

 

That is definitely a factory swaybar for a second gen Camaro.
As stated above, the mounting points look to have been reinforced/repaired at some point.
