Description:
This is my nearly completed '71 SS Camaro. I've owned the Camaro since 1973, 2nd owner. Spent the first 16 yrs, driving it 1/4 mile at a time, with trips to and from work on the weekdays.
After years of abuse the Camaro was tired, so it sat in the garage dead for alomst 10 yrs. My lovely wife decided if I wasn't going to fix it, she'd pay someone to, so I got off my rear and began a slow restoration. Took me the last 10 yrs. of off and on work to finish, but it's almost there.
I initially rebuilt the engine and rearend, as the tranny was rebuilt before it sat, and only needed gaskets and filter to be ready. The 427CI engine got a complete rebuild, including .040" bore, (that's 434 c.i. now) TRW forged pistons, completely reworked heads, a 284/282 duration, .528" lift solid lifter cam, Doug Thorley headers, and a new Holley 750.
After more yrs. of just driving it around I did a rebuild of the interior seats and carpet, then earlier this year we had our first wreck! Good news was it didn't hurt the frame or even much sheetmetal. Better news was it got me started towards finishing the darn car!
So now it's been a whirlwind 6 months project, with more interior work, complete new front end clip, and a lot more interior work, plus all new rubber everywhere. Only thing left now is to install the new suspension components sitting in a box, and it's ready to enjoy for the next 37 yrs!
