Default track tiers or not... that is the question

Im in the process of researching new tire options. I currently have 235-55-16. Can i go up to 255-45or50 and still fit on the rim? What tire would you guys recomend for the weekend track and daily driver. I'm possibly looking at some drag radials. I really dont konw that much and am curious about what you guys have seen and used! Tell me what works and doesnt. Or if you guys know of a really nice street tire... I'M ALL EARS!!!money is no option either, but interested in prices if you know them.

My bf uses Toyo RA-1 tires on his BMW for track and autocross events. I have done 1 autocross on them and really liked them, but then again I don’t know much about tires to begin with…
