Why do some Camaro's have ground effects, like the one below, and some don't? Was it just an option or what? Im talking about the V6's.. not the Z28's..

the ones that come stock with ground effects are the the SS's or the RS's. if you'll notice that most of them have T-Tops also.

 

Oh.. yeah.. didnt even think of it being an RS...

 

RS is v6?

 

Ive seen a few V6 RS's, but Im pretty sure they make V8 RS's too. I think I've seen a few newer Z28's with what looked like the RS ground effects.

 

yea, i almost baught a 99 z28 that had that kit on it... i figured it was just an option on any camaros

 

All 4th gen RS are V6. The ground effect stuff can be purchased separately and installed in any car. Was not an option when I purchased my Z28.

 

is a rs a regular v6 just with ground effects or is there better gearing and stuff+ ground effects?

 

The RS engine is a plain old regular V6 & nothing mechanically different in the rest of the car. Just appearance items.

RS= Sport Appearance Package (GFX, 3-Piece Spoiler, Alloy Wheels)
Y87 (some of the RS models have this, but not all)=LSD, 3.42 Gears, 14.4:1 Z28 Steering Ratio, 4-Wheel Discs

the RS package was offered to V8 cars, just wasn't a 'RS' car.
